Adam got his start in the landscape field with the purchase of a commercial walk behind mower at age 15. He graduated University of Georgia with a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture degree in 2003, and moved to the Lowcountry to manage a private plantation and historical garden downtown. After working 8 years for a commercial landscape company in Charleston and going through the Great Recession, the opportunity to open up 1899 LLC became a reality.
Jason Rowell joined the team in August 2023 as a Project Manager with a focus on landscape construction and installation. With a business degree, 13 years of landscape experience, and 10+ years as a wildlife manager and caretaker, Jason brings a unique perspective to the company.

We are proud to have over 100 years of combined experience in landscaping and business on our crew. We have a solid and diverse team; many of the crew members have been working with Adam since before he started the company.
We also participate in visa programs such as H2B to get quality workers to augment the crews during the busy season.
In April 2012, 1899 LLC started with two jobs lined up. Now, we work with several low country builders, countless private owners and manage an annual maintenance route of over 50 clients. As 1899 enters the next decade, we would like our word of mouth referrals to continue as a place people want to work and that clients seek out for all of their landscape needs.
1899 is proud to have grown as a referral-based company and our clients are the key.
We take pride in our work and deliver results.
We expect each employee to live by the company code of conduct each day. 1899 encourages employees to use their experience, ideas and talent to share new solutions, meet demands, and offer the best services in the industry.
Adam seeks to create an environment where his employees are happy to come to work, can be proud of their company and the work they do. He tells his employees that it all starts with them - happy employees do solid work and solid work creates happy clients.
The American Society of Landscape Architects is a professional association for landscape architects in the United States. Their mission is to advance landscape architecture through advocacy, communication, education, and fellowship. 1899 was the year this organization was founded.
We are trusted with an important component of our client’s daily life, their outdoor living spaces, that trust is paramount to the success of the client’s project and to our overall success as a business.
We start every project by providing a thorough consultation to understand your goals and the needs of the project. Once your design plans are firmed up, we will provide a detailed proposal for your review and acceptance. After the scope of work is finalized, we'll issue a deposit request, and once received, we'll get your project on the schedule to begin work.
Of course! We understand as your project proceeds, you may want to change things around, add and/or remove plants, etc. We keep detailed records of your requests and update your proposal pricing to include any and all change orders for final billing.
Some proposal items are included as an "allowance". An allowance means actual install amounts may be adjusted on final billing, depending upon actual quantities installed for best coverage areas, such as with pine straw or mulch.
We typically request up to a 50% deposit to get you on the schedule and get started.
Depending on scope and complexity of the project, we may also request progress payments throughout the project until completion and final billing.
We accept all forms of payment - cash, check, bank transfers and credit cards.
To save paper and trees, we email all invoices which include a "pay now" option.
For credit card payments, a 3% processing fee is added.
We have all necessary licenses and certifications for our area,
and we carry insurance for all of our projects.
Some larger construction projects require special licenses and certifications. We have trusted members of the landscaping community that we work with for those special cases.
We offer a limited warranty on all landscape installations, for plants, trees, sod, irrigation and lighting. Details of warranty inclusions and exclusions are provided with each proposal issued. Warranty begins from date of actual installation, and becomes available after project completion and full payment has been received.
